Al Kotero rose through the ranks of the Los Angeles Police Department, and had more than 13 years as a supervisor, including 10 years at the rank of Detective III prior to retiring in 2001.  Al’s exemplary career spanned more than two decades, during which time he gained widespread recognition within law enforcement circles in the field of major organized investigations while assigned to a coveted unit that liaised with federal, state, and international law enforcement agencies.

As a law enforcement officer, Al gained valuable practical experience in personal protection, kidnap rescue operations, covert operations and surveillance, interrogation techniques, organized narcotic operations, wire-tap surveillance, intelligence gathering, and privacy laws.  During his career, Al received official commendations for his professionalism, performance, and contributions to the successful prosecution of career criminals from the Los Angeles Police Department, the DEA, FBI, and Royal Canadian Mounted Police, as well as from federal and state prosecutors.  In the early 1990s, Al was featured in several episodes of the Los Angeles Police Department television show.  Al also has an additional nine years of experience as Senior Defense Criminal Investigator for the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office.

In the private sector, Al has more than 25 years of experience in providing services such as executive protection and investigations to exclusive clientele.  Initially, Al was sought by established renowned security and investigation firms in need of his unique combination of expertise and experience.  These companies were servicing publicly-owned conglomerates, members of Forbes 400, executives, celebrities, and others.  Independently, Al began providing executive protection to actors filming on location, and director and actors have hired him as their law enforcement technical advisor.    Eventually, Al formed Moonstone with the goal of providing the best security and investigation services possible by assembling a cadre of law enforcement professionals and other experts in the fields of security and investigation.
